Healthista’s Nutritional Director Rick Hay explains the benefits of green coffee bean extract, the less processed version of coffee

Rick Hay says: ‘Green coffee bean extract is a natural stimulant that is less processed version of coffee and contains has less caffeine than regular coffee.

‘Coffee beans are loaded with antioxidants and chlorogenic acid. This acid is believed to be the principal ingredient in green coffee beans which produces weight loss effects.

In fact, a Norwegian study was conducted over 12 weeks on 30 overweight individuals, with one group consuming regular instant coffee, while the other group consumed instant coffee enriched with 200mg of green coffee bean extract. Both groups were instructed not to change their diet or exercise habits.

The study found that the group taking the instant coffee with green coffee bean extract lost three times as much weight than the group taking plain instant coffee (5.4kg on average as opposed to 1.7kg over the 12 weeks).

As well as helping with weight loss, green coffee bean extract can aid with energy production and blood circulation as well as help your immune function, because it’s packed with antioxidant polyphenols.
